Introducing Dana Doughty, the new fashion adjunct at AAA. In addition, Ms. Doughty will offer a 5th/6th-grade after-school sewing class:
In this 6-week sewing series, students will learn the fundamentals of hand and machine sewing while completing several rewarding projects, including drawstring backpacks, roll-up sewing kits, and fabric collage art! We will practice safety and care of our equipment, primary hand and machine stitches, using an iron, working with patterns, encasing drawstrings and elastic, and sewing zippers and buttons. We will discuss the importance of textiles throughout history and learn about various fibers and fabrics, how they are produced, and how best to care for them.
Classes are open to 5th and 6th-grade students and will be held at the 7-12 Campus on Mondays from 4:00-5:30 pm. We will meet on September 12, 19, and 26, break for intersession, and resume on October 17, 24, and 31. Ms. Doughty will send a small embroidery project home for the students to work on over Fall Break.
All supplies and materials will be provided, including a small beginner's sewing kit. The cost is $150.
