Junior Class visits Reflections of The Black Experience at the Rogers Historial Museum

Today Mrs. Jamie Dale took her 11th grade English classes to the Rogers Historical Museum to experience the current exhibition Reflections of The Black Experience. Curated by local artist Kinya Christian the exhibition includes works of art produced by local and regional artists and features visual excerpts of the ground-breaking 1619 Project lead by Nikole Hannah-Jones with The New York Times.

Mrs. Dale’s classes have spent the spring semester studying the life and work of American abolitionist, writer and statesman, Frederick Douglass. To assist students in making connections between Douglass’ writings and the visual narratives of the contemporary works in the exhibition, Mrs. Kinya Christian met with the students in the gallery.  Christian masterfully orchestrates excerpts from the 1619 Project with the collection of art to share the 400-year history of the African diaspora to the modern-day Black experience in America.

The exhibition will be on view at the Rogers Historical Museum through the month of March.  To learn more about the exhibition and the 1619 Project visit the links below.
