Kindergarten visit Peel Museum

The kindergarten classes visited the Peel Museum and Botanical Gardens in Bentonville today. For the past month the students have been learning about the Life Cycle of the Butterfly.

Because the gardens at Peel House offer a variety of flowering plants that attract various species of butterflies the students visited to see the different stages of development for butterflies: egg, which are laid on plants by the adult female butterfly; caterpillar, the feeding stage;  pupa, transition stage to chysalis and finally emerging into to a  beautiful butterfly!  Though the damp weather prevented us from seeing butterflies, the students did find butterfly eggs, and LOTS of evidence of the appetite of caterpillars!

In addition to the Butterfly station students toured the historic home and learned about the Peel family that lived in the home from 1875 to 1903.  Students then enjoyed the outdoors by playing various games that children during the early 20th century would play.  The classes also toured the grounds and learned about the different types of gardens that are on the property.

Thank you Peel Museum and Botanical Gardens staff for providing a wonderful and engaging experience!
