In these English courses, I seek for my students to develop an understanding and appreciation of a wide range of literature and nonfiction works as well as gain preliminary and more advanced research skills. Specific course descriptions are posted beneath each class name below.

I also work in a variety of arts integration projects, some of which are presented here including Ikebana from the 10th grade poetry unit and Medieval style art from the senior The Canterbury Tales unit. AP Literature and Composition tone projects are also displayed.

AP Literature and Composition

AP® English Literature and Composition is designed to be a college level course with emphasis placed on literary analysis, close reading, and college level writing. The course includes intensive study from various genres and periods from the sixteenth century to contemporary times. The selected texts for the course will require careful observation of style, theme, social and/or historical values reflected by the work(s), and elements such as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. Students will write to understand and explain works’ textual details, considering literary elements. Students will also write analytical, argumentative papers in which they evaluate textual details and make judgments about works’ artistry, quality, and indicated values. The teacher will provide instruction and feedback on students’ writing, both before and after students revise their work. Outside reading, outside projects, and daily writing activities will also be required of students. Papers, essays, discussion, and daily assignments will be used for grades throughout the course.
