Arkansas Arts Academy
Receives Exemplary School Designation
Key West, FL (May 15, 2016):
Arkansas Arts Academy has been designated a 2016-2018 Exemplary School by Arts Schools Network, the nation’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools. Created to highlight a school’s commitment to excellence, this designation is presented to an Arts Schools Network member school in recognition of its efforts to evaluate strategically its purpose, operations, and educational programs. This honor signifies that Arkansas Arts Academy has successfully completed a self-evaluation in the following areas: strengths, areas for improvement, consistency with school-wide or program purposes, aspirations, and future challenges.
The mission of Arkansas Arts Academy (AAA) is to be the ultimate high school choice for excellence in arts and academics. The school bases its delivery on a foundation of four pillars. The first is academic excellence. AAA provides a rigorous, innovative curriculum with personalized student learning environments that result in college and career-ready students. Mastery of an art form is second. AAA provides art-focused programming where students master the creating and performing of the arts. Third, AAA believes in arts integration as an approach to teaching in which students construct and demonstrate understanding through an art form. AAA has an in-depth partnership with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Students engage in a creative process, connecting a museum art form and a curriculum-based subject which results into evolving objectives. Fourth, AAA takes the opportunity to develop partnerships with eight other local museums. Using Crystal Bridges as its flagship partner and extended classroom, AAA established learning connections to the diverse resources and experiences offered by collections housed in local historical, natural, and science museums or sites. Building student awareness through arts experiences and exposure to the museums is an integral part of the AAA mission.
